EU: Protect Syrian Refugees!

Due to the Syrian crisis, thousands of Syrians are seeking refuge in the European Union. Between March 2011 and September 2012, 21,000 Syrians did just that. As the situation in Syria gets worse and winter comes, it is essential that the European Union makes sure that all Syrians receive the protection that they need.

Right now, some countries offer protection and safety, while others subject refugees to detention, forced deportation, and complicated procedures in order to get protection. For example, Germany and Sweden automatically grant protection, while out of 10,000 refugees, Greece has only given 6 protection. There needs to be universal standards across the EU that ensures Syrians can easily receive protection, including access to medical treatment, humanitarian visas (with simplified visa procedures), and work and residence options.

Please tell the EU to protect Syrian refugees!

Dear European Union,

There have been 21,000 Syrians that have come to the European Union between March 2011 and September 2012 in order to escape the conflict in Syria. As the situation in Syria gets worse and winter comes, it is more important than ever that the European Union makes sure that all Syrian refugees are protected and that there are universal protection standards across the EU.

Right now, some countries offer protection and others do not, with countries like Germany and Sweden granting automatic protection, while countries like Greece have only protected 6 refugees out of 10,000.

Syrian refugees should be able to easily receive protection, including work and residence options, medical treatment, and humanitarian visas (with simplified visa procedures). They should not be deported or put in detention.
