Ban Dog, Cat, Raccoon Dog Fur

Each year, MILLIONS of dogs, cats and raccoon dogs are cruelly slaughtered for their fur. The "idea" of fur has now led to domesticated, intelligent "animals" to be beaten, brutalized, bled to induce shock and skinned alive!

These animals are raised and killed in China and other parts of Asia. Their fur skins are used to make trim on numerous "products" such as toys, coats, souvenirs, hats and other items. These items are legally imported and sold in Canada and sold all over the world.

There are no proper labelling laws in Canada. The present labels permitted to be used in Canada are misleading (ie. fax fur could be any type of dog, cat, raccoon dog fur and dog fur could be labelled as Asian wolf fur) while cat fur could be labelled as rabbit or labelled as some other type of "fur"). Dog and Cat fur in particular has been discovered dyed, cut and processed to resemble faux fur. Sometimes there are no labels at all with the exception of where the item was made.

In Canada, the Canadian Textile and Labelling Act does not require the labelling of animal's fur skins. The regulations of textiles only require that the existence of fur fibres, once removed from the skin of an animal and woven with textile fibres, be declared on a label.

European Countries and the United States have banned cat and dog fur, Canada has allowed dog, cat fur plates and products along with all of the other animal fur products being imported from Asian countries to these products to be imported and sold in Canada. It remains legal to import and sell dog and cat fur in Canada.

Please sign this petition to tell Prime Minister Stephen Harper, International Trade Minister Edward Fast and Agricultural Minister Honorable Gerry Ritz to ban the import and sale of dog, cat, raccoon dog fur in Canada.
