Bring Back Fundy National Park

Fundy National Park is one of Atlantic Canada’s natural gems. Bordered on the south by the Bay of Fundy, and on the west and east by two major waterways (Goose River and Upper Salmon River) it is also considered the home of the elusive eastern cougar. There are abundant hiking trails in the Park, and in the past, winter months have attracted cross-country skiers and winter campers. Five yurts have been built near the Visitors’ Centre, and are usually booked most weekends through the winter months.

With recent cuts to Fundy by the federal government, including loss of jobs and permanent positions now designated as seasonal, the Visitor Reception Centre will be closed in the winter months, as well as the washrooms and the yurts. The VRC also houses the Fundy Guild, a cooperating association with Fundy National Park. The Guild’s Nature Bookstore and Gift Shop is situated in the VRC, and profits are used to fund such Park projects as the Fundy Naturalists’ Club. With the closure of the VRC for the winter months, funds generated by the Guild will be drastically reduced.

Fundy National Park, at least for now, has become a seasonal operation. It’s time for us to speak out and let the federal government and management at Fundy National Park know that this is unacceptable to us. Please sign this petition and help us bring back the services that Canadians have enjoyed at Fundy for many years.
