Ban South African Rodeo Brutality!

In an undercover investigation, the SPCA witnessed animal brutality at rodeos in Cape Town, South Africa. The event hosted 200 to 300 people, representing the growing popularity of such sports in the country.

Despite hosts announcing the events as cruelty free, SPCA members witnessed animals clearly in pain when forced to buck. At the last rodeo, which took place early in 2013, animals were left outside in extreme heat with no water to drink for hours, and a pregnant mare was sent out to be ridden for "entertainment."

The bucking action that animals are forced to perform in rodeos is unnatural. Handlers use a variety of cruel methods to get an animal to buck, such as tightening bucking straps around its penis and testicles, sticking a finger up its nose, hitting its face or twisting its tail.

There is no reason for cruelty of this nature to continue, and it is unhealthy to promote such bloodthirsty sports as entertainment. Please sign the petition to ban Cape Town's brutal rodeos.
