Don't Fence Us In!

Dear Oak Park Residences,

Right now, the SMSD is moving forward with plans to erect a 6 foot tall chain link fence around the entire north grounds at Oak Park-Carpenter School.  This fence will mar the beauty of the open space and restrict access to our neighborhood Bluejacket Park and Pool that so many Oak Park residents now enjoy!  The fence will start at the school and go North to the existing fence that runs along the residences on 99th Place.  The fence will then turn behind the baseball field backstop and continue past the soccer field, cut across the bike path and around the entire playground, and finally stop at the school building.  If you agree that this plan will negatively impact our neighborhood, please sign this petition.

 Thank You!

PS- Though we appreciate the support from people outside of the Oak Park subdivision we are mainly looking for residents of Oak Park to sign.  We believe this will help with the effectiveness of the petition.

Update #29 years ago
We met with the principal & director of security. They gave the main reasons for putting up the fence as securing the grounds, as well as the students, at times spent outside during the school day. The fence will be erected. 3 gates will give access to the community after 5 on weekdays. Gates will also be open on the weekends & all summer. They want us to use the grounds. There are 16 schools in Phase 1 that'll be receiving the security updates. Thanks for your support.
Update #19 years ago
Four neighbors and 1 councilmen will be meeting with the principal of Oak Park-Carpenter and other district representatives on Wednesday afternoon to ask questions and get answers about the fence. We hope to continue gathering signatures on this petition up until Wednesday afternoon. Then the signatures will be printed and presented at the meeting. Please continue to spread the word to neighbors and thank you for your support!
