Have competitive events in school for literacy!

Literacy is one of the building blocks for success in our society yet it takes a back seat to sports in the minds of so many people. Students are encouraged to be good at competitive sports and in comparison reading seems boring and solitary. Schools and districts should have reading competitions (battles of the books) where teams of students can work together to show what they have learned in the books they have read. There should be awards and honors associated with this the way there is with sports.
