GET THE HOMELESS OFF THE STREETS OF "ONE OF THE WORLD'S MOST LIVEABLE CITIES" INTO WARM, SAFE ACCOMMODATION

It's only a matter of time before one of these poor wretches die from exposure after sleeping rough in Melbourne's bitterly cold winter weather.

Probably a temporary measure but to do nothing will prey on the consciences of every Melburnian forever.

We have many vacant buildings (the old Peter Mac Hospital in East Melbourne or the Eye + Ear Hospital for instance) that could be refurbished into a temporary residence for these disenfranchised and disengaged citizens who have fallen on hard times.

Instead of spending billions of dollars on infrastructure projects like tunnels and removal of rail crossings - the State Government should set aside funds to alleviate this most immediate tragedy!
