Please sign and share this petition in an effort to speak out to Michigan legislators, asking that they introduce and pass a bill that would bar pet ownership once someone has been convicted of felony animal cruelty. Without stiffer punishments and implementing such a bill, animal abuse, cruelty and neglect will not stop!
A recent case in the Saginaw Township of Michigan reiterates one of many reasons why animal cruelty and abuse is ever-increasing and on the rise. In this situation, a man who is supposedly a repeat offender, was allegedly involved in a domestic dispute and animal torture. The sad part about it is that this guy, after sentencing, was given a plea deal, despite the pain and suffering the animal endured. If a law were implemented that banned convicted felony animal abusers from owning, caring for or being anywhere near another animal, ever, horrific situations such as this tortured cat may not have happened. This poor animal was punched in the face and dropkicked across the floor. The vet caring for the feline described this as one of the worse cases of animal abuse she has seen in her 14 years of practice. However, this has turned out to be a case with a happy ending; the vet adopted the cat who turned out to be the sweetest pet with such a forgiving nature after what it has endured. Not all animal cruelty cases end so favorably.
Help us in our efforts to stop the abuse through this petition and encourage the Michigan legislature to implement and pass a law that bans all animal ownership, care or even closeness after a conviction of felony animal cruelty. We need to take some measures, state by state to stop the abuse of innocent, defenseless creatures; be their voice and protection.
Michigan State Legislators – Please introduce and pass a law that strictly bans past convicted felony animal abusers from ever again owning, caring for or even getting near another animal, ever. Unless the punishments are more severe, including such a ban, the abuse will never stop. You can prevent repeat animal abuse, cruelty and neglect.
