Get Live Poultry & Slaughter Markets off the Philadelphia streets!

  • by: Paul Calpo
  • recipient: Hon. Michael Nutter - Mayor of Philadelphia

You should sign this petition if animals of all shapes and sizes are of the same degree. Prioritising or differentiating between animals and how they are killed or eaten is wrong, is it not? In some countries they eat dog, and in some they don't, but animals of all kinds will suffer the same fate to slaughter for our stomach.
In this case, we have live poultry markets on the STREETS, not in suitable establishments in rural areas.

Live poultry markets a lot like Central Live Poultry on Spring Gardens St in Philadelphia US sits on the open streets for all to see.
Several cages crammed full of live birds, chickens (and rabbits) stacked up on each other, the door to the store wide open during the hot weather.
Along with this, these animals are exposed to loud noises of the traffic, as well as poisonous pollution and the constant on lookers from the public.

This isn't only an inhumane way to control livestock but also distressing to passersby on the street. Especially if there are children around, which there is.

Shutting down this sort of establishment is almost unachievable because of the high demand of the meat industry, but to have this establishment moved to a more rural area, or field land would be more suitable than on the streets and hopefully with suitable supervision.

All we want to ask, is the Mayor of Philadelphia Hon. Michael Nutter, that you look into these sorts of establishments and propose they are moved off of the streets. We shouldn't prioritise or differentiate the life of an animal, this wouldn't be acceptable if it was cows or pigs in stores on the streets and it shouldn't be for birds, chickens and rabbits alike.
