FIX OUR SCHOOL

We are concerned parents, staff, and community members of Glenview Elementary School.

We STRONGLY URGE the school board to make a decision on May 28th regarding construction and to allow us to move forward with improvements. No additional DELAYS!

1. SAFETY: Retrofit our building, which has been deemed seismically unsafe by the state of California (it is included on the AB300 list) and OUSD -- it was listed as #9 on the district's own list for retrofits in 2006, before Measure B was passed.  Eight years is long enough to wait for this safety upgrade.

2. LEARNING: Prepare our school for 21st century Common Core learning and new, digital standardized testing with upgraded electrical to support necessary WiFi network, high speed copiers, chrome books carts, improved lighting, increased outlets for use of projectors and technology based instructional tools.

3. SPACE: Expand our classrooms - we need larger classrooms to meet state requirements. Remove the 60+ year old portable classrooms. Add bathrooms in Kinder classrooms as required by the state.

4. FUNCTIONALITY:  Upgrade 90 year old dysfunctional heating and air circulation system for teachers and students to focus on teaching and learning. Upgrade non-working doors for which parts are no longer available. Create larger bathrooms to serve a student population that is more than twice as large as the original class in 1926. Provide spaces for Special Education staff, school nurse, teacher work space,  social workers and modern administrative office. Create equitable access for disabled students, staff and family members. Increase storage space and provide a modern auditorium for the integration of arts, music, and drama into the school program. Upgrade the cafeteria and kitchen so that fresh food can be provided to students and students can eat inside during inclement weather.
