Action against false accusations and false police reports

There are many serious issues that go along with a false police report, a false arrest, and false imprisonment. Just getting the report made can cause a person life long problems, when their background is pulled up in a background search for an apartment or a job. Some charges, even if they are later dropped can follow a person around for a life time.
From false reports of domestic abuse, to false reports of other more serious crimes. These false reports can cause someone to spend time in jail, until they bail out or go to court. Which in turn can cost them their job, their home, their children, and many other important things. Even if the person is innocent, and prevails in court, the interim of going through the justice system can ruin a person's life.
Many municipalities and states have next to no punishment for someone who reports a crime without merit. People can use the police to harass a victim, without consequences.

We expect law makers and law enforcers to use caution and to research the issue with perpatrators using law enforcement to harass and defame other parties and persons with false police reports. We expect that felony charges would deter people from using the police to harass and harm others, without merit. Right now there is too little done about false accusations, but what is clear is that false accusations ruin lives.
Please take action against this sort of abuse, and increase penalties for false accusations.
