to my Puppy Mill Petition

Many people are unaware of the growing business of milling kittens.  With the advent of more awareness of puppy mills, many farmers and others are breeding kittens.

There is absolutely no need for this when 71% of cats in shelters are euthanized yearly.  Millions more try and survive on the dangerous streets.  Most will meet untimely ends by cars (cats have even less rights than dogs.  If someone hits a cat with their car they are not required to even report it, much less contact help), other animals, sickness, the harsh elements, and evil people.  Many of these cats were dumped outside or lost.  The ones born outside are mostly the result of people not neutering or spaying the cats they committed to care for, in the first place.

Kitten Mills sell kittens to pet stores (over 90% of kittens in pet stores are from Mills), laboratories for cruel and inhumane experiments or other testing facilities. The lucky ones get adopted but even so, many suffer the same fate as dogs from Puppy Mills: they have health and behavioral problems and genetic diseases from being inbred.

Kitten Mill operators overcrowd the animals in small cages resulting in impairment of emotional and mental development, diseases, skin sores and matting because they cannot adequately groom themselves - the most important aspect of a cat's life.  Just think if you were not allowed to bathe, brush your teeth or do anything else you do in your hygienic regimen.

Kittens also suffer from poor nutrition, lack of natural lighting, little or no veterinary care, poor shelter, no parasite control, no exercise and horribly unsanitary conditions.  This is exceptionally cruel to cats because anyone that has cared for or lived with a cat knows how meticulous and clean they are.

These poor kittens don't receive any socialization from people and are ripped from their mothers too soon, often while the mothers are still nursing them.  This causes developmental problems since the bond of mother and kitten has been broken.

Kittens are also kept on wire flooring as in Puppy Mills, which injures their paws and legs.  The mommy cats are also continuously bred for over TEN years by farmers operating Kitten Mills.  Both the males and females used to create kittens are confined to cages their entire lives.  Everyone who knows and loves cats understands that cats love to climb, jump, explore, cuddle on your lap, and be adventurous.  They obviously cannot do any of these things in cages.  When they are no longer able to reproduce, they are killed in many heinous ways. Rescuers have found rooms of injured and dying kittens thrown on top of each other. They have been savagely left to die and languish in their sickness and eventual death, as they cry for help that in many instances never comes.

Kitten Mills contribute exponentially to homelessness and overpopulation.  Approximately 25,000 Cats are euthanized EVERY DAY in shelters.   In the United States alone, there are an estimated 70 MILLION homeless cats.

There are absolutely no restrictions as to WHO can create a Kitten Mill, absolutely no restrictions as to WHERE a Kitten Mill can be, many are in houses.  ANYONE can mass produce kittens thus perpetuating the cycle of homelessness and euthanization.  These people are evil and vile and must be stopped.

                           The Goals of this Petition:

  • To raise awareness to the cruel existence of Kitten Mills
  • Demand legislators enact bills to abolish them
  • Demand legislators enact harsh punishments - mandatory prison sentences and large fines
  • Demand legislators enact Felony Crime status
  • Demand legislators Re-Classify cats and kittens as SENTIENT BEINGS
  • Demand legislators remove them from the control of the compromised USDA
  • Demand legislators enact a NATIONAL REGISTRY for all abuse, cruelty, torture and murder of ALL CATS
