ENFORCE Illegal Fireworks laws OR Ban them completely in Nevada

(Note: Picture is of rescue dog hiding in shower for 4 hours terrified of fireworks) Illegal Fireworks Use Out of Control and Must STOP! We demand better enforcement and planning by our police departments and elected officials OR ban the sale of all illegal fireworks in Clark County (Nevada). Citizens are tired of feeling threatened and terrorized by the flagrant and obnoxious use of illegal fireworks in our neighborhoods.

The 4th of July should be a joyous day of celebrating our country's independence with friends and family however, for far too many, it has turned out to be a week of terror for many 2 and 4 legged family members from very loud and illegal fireworks. What use to be a neighborhood activity of lighting off safe and sane fireworks has now turned into a contest to see who has the biggest and baddest illegal fireworks. In the days before and after the 4th of July, pets, children, seniors, citizens, veterans with and people with PTSD, are terrorized at all hours of the day and night with the sound of a WARZONE in their neighborhoods.

When I was growing up, some people would shoot of illegal bottle rockets or smaller loud "firecrackers" but these days, any average Joe can visit surrounding counties or areas and purchase commercial SHOW STYLE fireworks that are dangerous and Extremely loud. In many neighborhoods across Clark County, instead of celebrating INDEPENDENCE, people and pets hid in their homes the week of the 4th till 1 or 2 a.m, trying to shield themselves, their terrified pets, loved ones with stress related conditions, with loud tv's, radios, or even medication and desperately wait until the Explosions and Booms, Bangs, Pops, Pows of what sounds like a military action to end.

What a disservice to combat veterans to allow all these loud, scary and illegal fireworks that can trigger PTSD in some. A group called "Military with PTSD .org" hands out yard signs as part of their "Explosion of Kindness" campaign designed to educate people on the effects of fireworks on veterans and hopefully others who are afflicted with PTSD.

Some dogs and cats will do anything to escape the horrifying sounds and huge explosions. The shelter is always full but around the 4th of July it gets even worse when animals must die to make room for the terrified animals escaping from scary and illegal fireworks. It is no secret that this holiday wreaks havoc on family pets and creates a tragic situation at the shelter. Here is a message from our local shelter warning pet owners prior to Independence Day: "more pets become lost on July 4th than any other day of the year." We are tired of this and DEMAND it stops. We expect our elected officials to FIND A WAY!

ILLEGAL Fireworks abuse is out of control. There is no freedom or independence when the actions of others terrify you and your family members and drive you inside your homes to hide away from selfish, reckless, dangerous, EXTEMELY LOUD, behavior of others. Those of us who OBEY the law and desire to exercise our rights, within reason, of quiet and peaceful enjoyment of our homes strongly urge our elected officials to fairly and equitable address this issue. We too, deserve Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness on Independence Day with our families.
