Student Non-Discrimination Act

Students who identify as LGBT or associate with LGBT students and attend Public Schools have been and are subjected to discriminations such as bullying, harassment, violence and intimidation. These type of discrimination has resulted for students to have high rates of absenteeism, dropout and mental health issues. These students deserve the right to receive services that will allow them to be in a safe environment and have equal educational opportunities.

In congress a bill has been proposed, titled " Student Non-Discrimination Act of 2018" (H.R 5374). This bill leans toward providing a safer environment and equal educational opportunities for those students that encounter bullying, harassment, intimidation and violence because of their sexual orientation. If passed, this bill will be able to help the students to have the right of equal education and being more safe in the school environment. (Polis, 2018)
