STOP the BULLYING in Figure Skating

It has recently been in the news that a 12 year old girl named Hayleigh Abbott was thrown out of her figure skating club after speaking out about bullying in her club. In an age where anti bullying is being promoted everywhere it is surprising that she was banned after only doing what has been encouraged.....to speak out. She has now been without the sport she loves for 4 months because Skate Canada will not resolve the investigation in a positive or timely manner. It should be easy to put an end to this by stopping the bullying however it is not encouraged to go to the media about this and could potentially be why it is taking so long. Further more a supporter commented on FB about Hayleigh's situation and all that was put on there was more cyber bullying (adults included).

It is my hope that by putting up this petition Skate Canada will do the right thing and allow this 12 year old to go back to a sport she loves and they implement a respect in sports course like Hockey Edmonton so this doesn't happen again.

It is important that the correct message is sent to not only sports teams but to everyone that you can speak out against bullying and that when you do it should stop.  Please help a 12yr old girl be aloud to get back on the ice and not be punished for speaking out.  This article has been in the media and it is time to send a message to Skate Canada that they should stop this and resolve the problem in a positive and timely manner.  By taking 4 months and letting a 12 year old be subjected to not only bullying on ice but o FB as well.  It is my hope that with this petition it will send a message that this is not ok......anywhere! Imagine if it were your chld what would you do?

Respect in Sport interview awesome. Already implemented in Skate Canada for a month? Coaches don't have enough incentive to use it, also there is a much deeper issue such as boards and kids. Still very positive bc it only takes 1 club to make change. it is inexpensive and an amazing program that is everywhere in sports. Hayeigh's club needs this...

My petition made Yahoo sports yesterday! https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/video/petition-end-bullying-ice-004742618.html And I have received an email from skate Canada to apply to their Canskate courses during their AGM and coaches conference. I have never been contacted by them..coincidence?

In a side note it may not be held up by Skate Canada bc they are not dealing with it.There may be more red tape, however in my opinion it doesn't excuse the fact that it hasn't been resolved nor even the parties at hand brought up to date.I still hold my ground (speaking for myself) that more hard core rules like the respect in sport program would be beneficial to Figure Skating
