Over 20 trans women, many of them women of color, have been murdered this year in the United States. This far outstrips last year's total of 12, and represents a dramatic increase in violent homicides against the trans community.
Despite this, the mainstream media and our politicians remain largely silent. This cannot be allowed to continue.
Together we call on President Obama and the Obama administration as a whole to recognize and speak out against this horrific wave of violence, to investigate these murders, and to come up with a strategy for putting an end to these killings.

I wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who has signed this petition. As those of you who saw the initial signature goal of 1,000 will know, this petition has far exceeded my expectations. That said, we are so close to 15,000 signatures so if I could ask you all please to share this petition on your social media (Facebook, Twitter etc.) and get us over that last milestone that would be amazing.
