Stop Using Betta in the Eco-Bottle Project

This project places Betta into a 1 liter soda bottle, with only half a liter of water to live in. Betta are tropical fishes that require up to at least 2.5 gallons of water to thrive, and water that is at least 76 degrees farenheit. Betta are labyrinth fish that can breathe oxygen directly, so when they are placed into the eco-bottle, they become lethargic and sick due to the lack of oxygen they need both in the bottle and the water.

This project require to keep the same water in the bottle for the duration of the experiment. During this time, the plants that are also in the water release harmful chemical to the Betta and cause the water to have a surplus of ammonia. When the ammonia builds up, Betta develope a disease called 'Fin Rot' which slowly burns the Betta's fins away.

This is animal cruelty. Please sign this petition to stop students from using Betta fishes in this project in the nearby future.
