Support Flash the Basset Hound

The small city I live in – Wadena, Minnesota has decided to start enforcing an old ordinance allowing only two dogs per household. I have three dogs. The chief of police decided to start with my family because we have three dogs. Three amazing Bassets.

The mayor and a city council member state this ordinance was only to be enforced if there are complaints-I have no recent complaints. We had barking dog complaints a year ago but put up a privacy fence, as suggested by one officer, and our hounds wear bark collars when we are not home.

Now we were told to rehome one of our hounds!! The chief is not treating all dog owners equally. The mayor has a list of over thirty houses with "too many dogs" but the police don't want the list as they are not "going head hunting." Yet the chief came to me, saying, "we know you have three dogs and you need to get rid of one!"

We have a senior Basset with heart problems who takes medications twice daily. We have a special needs Basset Hound who gets medications daily. We rescued him a sister to be his therapy dog. We rescued Flash 6 years ago, and couldn't stand to give him up! I am being discriminated against and would love your support to "Keep Flash Home!"

My family needs to be together. Flash's heart is breaking. His furry siblings, Comet and Roxy, are stressed. My 11 year-old daughter and myself are stressed. Please support our fight in keeping our furry friend.

Update #16 years ago
A group of concerned citizens are on the agenda at the Wadena City Council meeting, Tuesday, the 8th of August, to discuss the kennel ordinance that is being enforced on residents. The kennel ordinance says nothing about residential zoning except that we cannot be approved for a kennel license. Send us some drool, please!!
