Stop the Decline of Canadian Foreign Aid

  • by: Erica Erwin
  • recipient: Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Thomas Mulcair, Justin Trudeau
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, respectfully draw the attention of the House of Commons to the following:

That despite promising 0.7% of Canada's Gross National Product to foreign aid spending, foreign aid has shrank from 0.34% of GNP in 2010-2011 to 0.27% of GNP in 2013-2014.

That Canadian foreign aid spending is set to drop to record lows this year, with spending on poverty reduction alone shrinking 23% in the first six months of the last fiscal year.

Therefore, with thanks for Canada's efforts so far, particularly in the area of Maternal and Child Health, your petitioners respectfully request the House of Commons

TO keep working towards our promise to support the world's poor and reverse the declining trend of foreign aid funding, working towards meeting the promised target 0.7% of GNP.
