Earth Hour D.C. - a Bright Idea

"Hundreds of millions of people, businesses and governments around the world unite each year to support the largest environmental event in history - Earth Hour.

More than 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries worldwide switched off their lights for Earth Hour 2011 alone, sending a powerful message for action on climate change."

The Coliseum in Rome, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Empire State Building in New York will all go dark on March 31, 2012 at 8:30 PM. Hundreds of other countries, governments and people are participating in the Earth Hour in an effort to unite forces to bring attention to climate change. Imagine how many billions of kilowatts can be saved if more cities participate? Every little light makes a difference.

Why isn't DC participating in Earth Hour? Why aren't the lights that illuminate the Congress building, the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial being turned off? Why is the nation's capital not demonstrating its commitment to environmental issues?

Please sign this petition if you want D.C. to participate in Earth hour! The voices of the citizens need to be heard and I refuse to believe that the District's people are not aware of the changed our planet is going through and would not want to support this globally led effort to raise awareness and demonstrate their commitment to the cause.
