Tell Legislators to Stand Against Anti-Protest Laws

In response to protests against Trump's administration, several republican-controlled states are pushing legislation that would penalize non-violent public protests and demonstrations.

Last January, a bill passed in Minnesota that would let cities sue demonstrators for money to pay police hired for crowd control at their protests. The bill was drafted in response to a Black Lives Matter demonstration in protest of Philando Castle's death by police gunfire.

As if that weren't enough, state lawmakers are also considering a bill called the "Minnesota Public Safety Personnel Protection Act" that would criminalize protests, requiring a minimum 12-month prison sentence and fine of $10,000 for any protester who obstructs police or public property.

In Michigan, lawmakers are pushing a bill that would increase fines against picketers to $1,000 per day per person, and $10,000 per organization or union. The bill passed in the House last December.

Laws and proposals like these threaten the fundamental United States citizens' right to peaceful free speech without penalty. Please sign the petition to urge United States legislators to stand against anti-protest laws.
