Save Sveta from being deported unjustly

Sveta is a Russian citizen who has lived a blameless life in the UK for the last 8 years. She has worked 50 to 60 hours per week as a carer of elderly people. She didn't take annual holidays and often worked through Christmas and Easter. She paid all taxes and National Insurance. She should have qualified for residency after 5 years but her German Husband left her 5 years ago and she has struggled to get a divorce. Because the divorce has still not been settled, the Home Office refuse to offer her residency and want to deport her. It will take another 3 months to finalize the divorce.
The Home Office tried to deport her illegally on 7th November in summer clothes to a -5C Russia, and without money or even a phone. Her solicitor stopped this illegal deportation but she was held in detention for 12 weeks. SHE HAS COMMITTED NO CRIME. They refused her bail repeatedly despite there being a Judicial Review of her case. The Home Office is a byeword for incompetence. They regularly refuse her applications because she cannot show her passport. The Home Office has had her passport for the last 2.5 years. Finally, after 3 months in detention where she suffered bullying and overly intrusive searches, she has been released on bail but is still under threat of imminent deportation.

She has an English Fiancee who will marry her as soon as she is divorced. He has been told to give up the home he owns, his job, his family his friends to go to Russia. He is registered disabled and has been told he will have no problem getting a job in Russia to support them both, despite he speaks no Russian and is unlikely to obtain a work permit. Seta escaped from persecution and threats in Russia and is in danger if she returns.

Sveta is the sort of citizen every country would be proud to call its own, except UK. Please support the fight to keep Sveta in the UK and live with her fiancee.

Update #16 years ago
Thank you all for your support for Svetlana. She was finally released after more than 3 months in detention and after suffering bullying from the detention centre staff. However, the fight must go on as she is still under threat of immediate deportation. She still has no right to remain in the UK.
