Canada: Hold Barrick Gold Accountable for Spilling Cyanide into Argentinian Rivers

Barrick Gold, a Canadian corporation and largest producer of gold in the world, has recently spilled over one million litres of cyanide into five rivers in Argentina. The spill was the result of a faulty valve and an open sluice gate. Despite this horrible spill, Barrick Gold has taken no steps to prevent further destruction nor has it been held accountable for this preventable disaster.

Cyanide is toxic to humans and wildlife alike, even at low concentrations. Canada is allowing Barrick Gold to get away with poisoning citizens of Argentina by turning a blind eye to their horrific safety and environmental practices in the country.

As a Canadian corporation, Canada needs to step in a hold Barrick Gold accountable for their actions and ensure that they are not devastating other countries in their quest for profit.

Sign today to hold Barrick Gold accountable for their toxic practices. By signing today you are sending a strong message that Canadian corporations cannot just leave Canada and poison developing nations in the name of profits.

To the honourable Justin Trudeau,

As someone who care deeply about the environment I am greatly concerned about the recent cyanide spill in Argentina by Canadian corporation Barrick Gold.

As a Canadian corporation, Canada has some jurisdiction over the actions and responsibilities of it's corporations. As such, I urge you to hold Barrick Gold accountable as per Canadian environmental standards for the spill in Argentina.

Barrick Gold needs to meet Canadian safety standards for their operations in other countries and needs to be held accountable for any damages they make in other countries.

Canada must stand up to their corporations and let them know that you will not stand idly while they devastate other parts of the world.
