Changing the Definiton and Policy in Ohio on bullying in schools

The state of Ohio defines bullying as:
3.1. *Harassment, intimidation or bullying” means either of the following: 3.1.1. Any intentional written, verbal, graphic, or physical act that a
student or group of students exhibited toward other particular student more than once and the behavior both:

Most schools carry a policy based on the definition from the state of Ohio. Bullying is not and should not defined as something occurring more then once. It only takes one incident for a child to feel unloved or unwanted. No one knows what someone else's child is going through. This petition is being created to have parents finally take a stand. I am working with my State rep in regards to trying to get the Ohio Board of Educations policy changed so school policies change in the matter of bullying. We can not sit back and let the schools base their policy's based on the Ohio definition anymore. To many kids have attempted to take their lives or have taken their life due to being bullied. Enough it enough! We need parents or not even parents but grand parents or aunts and uncles to sign the petition so that they will hear our voices and get the legislative changed. The more people standing behind the better chance we have of getting policies and laws changed.

I have had many people ask "why the verbiage" or "all of this for just the way it is worded. Let me explain in more depth why. The state of Ohio makes a policy also know as their model policy which you can locate on the Ohio board of education. This policy that the state approved is an example of what schools have to follow when setting that school districts policy on bullying. For example, my child's school tell me there is a zero tolerance policy with bullying, when in reality they have a set policy which is the minimal the state requirements. So when I talked to them about I was told that our schools are not required to open up an investigation with only one incident being reported. And this is because the state of Ohio defines it as being "more than once." With out changing the verbiage being changed schools will not be required or won't change their policy's. Every incident should be looked into not opening an investigation after multiple reports. It only take on incident for a child to feel unwanted or unloved. One time for a child to self inflicted injuries or to try and take their own lives. And sadly, some succeed at taking their lives. We need to do what we can to make sure all schools are made to have a zero tolerance policy. And that each report of bullying is looked into. Please share this petition so we can get everyone behind it. This isn't just for my son but for the children who have already lost their lives because of bullies or because the school did nothing to prevent it.
