Hindu refugees fleeing persecution are being denied citizenship in India, despite it being their constitutional right. This petition supports a call for the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to grant them protection.
Pakistani Hindu women are regularly being kidnapped and forced to convert to Islam in order to have “respectable” marriages. Rinkle Kumari, a 19 year old Pakistani Hindu, was abducted and forced to convert earlier this year. After speaking out against her captor, her family received threats and her grandfather was shot. Eventually, she was forced to accept her new religion and role as a Muslim wife.
This story is an increasingly common case and why many Hindu families are fleeing Pakistan seeking protection for their daughters. However, despite evidence of brutal and inhuman treatment, India does not recognise them as refugees and many have to convert to survive. Those that make it to India must wait in refugee camps for their basic rights to be granted, many have been waiting for more than a decade.
The Bharatiya Janata Party claims that this is “a violation of human rights” and will contact the NHRC seeking constitutional protection for Hindu refugees. India has dramatically reduced the number of visas following the Mumbai terror attacks in 2009.
Please support these girls and their families by signing and sharing this petition. They need your help.
For the Attention of: Honarable Justice Shri K.G. Balakrishnan, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission of India
We, the undersigned, call upon the commission to comply with the constitution and grant citizenship to Pakistani and Bangladeshi Hindus that are fleeing persecution. Many of these refugees are the victims of human rights violations and deserve the protection of the Indian government. That young Hindu girls are subject to abduction, abuse, rape and forced conversion is a disgrace and it is unjust to deny them and their families citizenship.
We hope that you take our petition seriously and take the appropriate action.
Thank you for you attention.
