After a recent DOT bridge inspection, 2 bridges in and around the city of Peru were found to be decrepit. Bridge #1 is located on 290th Street (just west of Clanton Creek Rd.) and is a Winterset Bus route. After inspection, bridge #1's tonnage amount was dropped from 10 tons to 6 tons. The new weight limit will not hold the school bus nor will it hold the necessary farm equipment on this Farm to Market Road. Bridge #2 is located on the eastside of Peru on Peru Road. On completion of inspection, the DOT found this bridge must be replaced and/or repaired within the next 3 years. (Bridge #2 is currently not on the Madison County 5 year project plan for paved roads/bridges.) Furthermore, there a several pot holes on Brown Street (west side of Peru) that are unavoidable for most motor vehicles and have been for many years. The solution for these bridge/road repairs/replacements is for Madison County to request financial assistance for Farm to Market road repairs/replacement (bridge #1 & Brown Street) and to request city bridge replacement funds (bridge #2) as well as making these bridges/road repairs in and around the city of Peru one of the top priorities in Madison County due to safety reasons.
