Hello my name is Edith Browne I was diagnosed with sickle cell disease at birth and I have been living with sickle cell and many life threatening complications it comes with.
Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that causes red blood cells to become hardened and form crescent or “sickle” shapes. Sickle-shaped cells are not flexible and can stick to vessel walls, causing a blockage that slows or stops the flow of blood which can be terribly painful and potentially deadly.
Lately I began to suffer dramatically and it has taken a toll on me I could no longer push myself. As I’ve gotten older my Sickle Cell Disease had manifest and everything seemed to have gotten
more of a struggle it was affecting my performance at work as it is was my livelihood.
As a result I had to go out on sick leave and applied for my pension but I was denied help from the very same state department of 20 years.
My efforts and dedicated years in anguish and still on the job obviously went unnoticed. Now I must begin to fight and make a statement for people who suffer with Sickle Cell Disease and
how it’s misunderstood and that the expenses that come with treating a lifelong disease are costly.
This is where you come in. You can help support brave people like myself during this ordeal. Support Sickle Cell awareness.
Give thanks for the healthy people in your life, and show support to those who are not. Thank you.
