LIVING HELL. EVERY SINGLE DAY, YEAR AFTER YEAR

This is the reality for Mikey the tethered dog.

This is a petition for your support to release Mikey from his restraints and give him a chance at a better life. Please take a few minutes to read Mikey’s story.

Mikey has been tethered to a post with a short chain for about 20 hours a day, every day, for over 2 years. The 2 metre short chain restrains Mikey and he has no chance to explore his surroundings freely like a normal, curious dog would. The only time Mikey is untethered is during brief poo sessions once or twice a day, which is not adequate enough.

The limitation of Mikey’s mobility contravenes ‘The Five Freedoms’, widely accepted as a statement of fundamental principles of animal welfare and advocated by international groups like the World Society for Protection of Animals (WSPA) and World Organisation of Animal Health (OIE).

The Five Freedoms being;

  1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

If his sources are depleted, Mikey is unable to physically alert his owner or move to another food or water source.

  2. Freedom from discomfort

Tied to a post, Mikey is exposed to the elements all day, every single day. He has a few planks of wood as a makeshift kennel that can barely shield all of his body. There is nowhere to hide from the rain and wet, Mikey’s only bed is the floor, whether wet or dry. Mikey is constantly tethered with the weight of the metal chain bearing down on his neck. The short chain restricts his movements.

  3. Freedom from pain, injury or disease

Pain may be caused from the weight of the chain attached to Mikey’s collar. Mikey’s lack of exercise may contribute to poor health and disease.

  4. Freedom to express normal behaviour

It is unnatural for a dog to stay in one area for 20 hours a day. Animals are naturally free to roam around in the wild, untethered.

  5. Freedom from fear and distress

Being tethered for such an extended period of time could have a devastating psychological effect on Mikey. Psychological effects are normally long-term and will most likely affect Mikey for the entire duration of his life.

(FAO 2010)

House owners who tether their dogs 24/7 do not deserve to have any pets. ingapore does not have any laws protecting animals from the practice of tethering. Mikey’s situation had been made known to the Agri-food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) in Sep 2013 and in Jan 2015 but the Authority did not take any action toward his release.

We are not giving up.

This is an appeal to you to make a difference in Mikey’s life, please support this petition to FREE MIKEY from his restraints, a life time of suffering. Your support today could SAVE his life.

Please share this petition widely so that Mikey and other tethered dogs can have a chance at freedom and a normal life.

Imagine looking at the door every day and hoping that someone will come and play. Imagine feeling cold during the monsoon season. Imagine panting hard during the hot months. Imagine never ever having the freedom to roam freely any more. Imagine BEING MIKEY FOR 1 DAY.

Please share this petition widely so that Mikey will have a chance at freedom and a normal life.

Thank You
