Preservation of the Whitewater River

We want to protect the Whitewater River in Ohio from the recent influx of canoe traffic by Green Acres Canoe Rental and the illegal activity brought with it.

The goal of this petition is to keep the Whitewater River clean and safe by limiting the volumn of traffic and the types of activity currently on the river.

We are asking our local prosecutor and law enforcement agencies to enforce our laws and punish the law breakers that come through Hamilton County Courts.

We are asking Green Acres Canoe to abide by and enforece our laws. Check coolers and Check ID's before sending your customers down river. We know this will stop the crimal element on the river and help to clean up the river.

There are between 1,500 and 2,000 canoes being sent down this small river on any given weekend. The river banks are becoming trashed with the left overs of these canoe trips. There are beer cans, glass bottles, plastic food wrappers, and thousands of cigarett butts littering its beaches, and even worse filth since the livery does not provide bathroom facilities.

This small river is one of the cleanest in Ohio. But, there is absolutely no oversight as to the number of people Green Acres Canoe is sending down the river. There is no regaurd for the river, the wildlife or its neighbors. The litter and the volume of traffic will have a negative effect on the wildlife. In the past few years eagles have begun nesting on the Whitewater.

Please sign this petition to help the eagles, osprey and all the other wildlife that call this senic river "home".

Dear Hamilton County Prosecutor, We are calling on you to uphold our laws and hold accountable those who break our laws, by passing out the appropriate punishments. Please remeber us, the property owners and law abiding citizens that want to enjoy the WW River. Thank you

We are calling on these law enforcement agencies to enforce the laws and cite the individuals breaking our laws:

-Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources -Hamilton County Park Dist. -Hamilton County Health and Public Safety -Hamilton County Sheriff Dept. -Harrison Police Dept.

Please know we appreciate your efforts in cleaning up the river from this criminal element and will assist any way we can.

We are calling on the owners of Green Acres Canoe to assist in enforcing Federal, State, and Local Laws and to change their “boater instructions” AND by restricting what their customers bring on the river

Do not tell them to "rest and socialize on Big Island" or any other beach, as per your website. The beaches are private property or owned by the State of Ohio.

Do not tell your customers to go to bathroom in our "woods and cornfields", as per your website. This is illegal trespassing, unsanitary and offensive to property owners.

Limit the amount of canoes you put in the river per hour/day.

Limit the amount of alcohol per boat. Check Coolers. Check ID's

Operating any boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs is pro- hibited ( ORC 1547.11), underage drinking (Minor in Possession) {ORC 4301.631 (G); ORC 4301.69}, indecent exposure (ORC – 2907.09), littering, trespassing (ORC 2911.21) , have sex in public (ORC 2907.38 (C) & (E-2), urinating in public(ORC 2907.09) and physically assaulting others (ORC 2903.13).

Update #19 years ago
UPDATE: 8/8
This week 4 State and Local Police agencies descended on the canoe company!
Given this clear ultimatum, changes are already starting to occur:
a policeman posted
a sign reading " you should expect law enforcement present on the river and at all green acres locations" Hamilton Co Police and Ohio div. of Watercraft
"This will definitely curtail the huge numbers of "BAD" traffic.
Please let's keep signing so the Hamilton Co. Prosecutor knows we want these offenders punished.
