Tell Gov. Justice: End Greyhound Racing in West Virginia Now!

Every year, thousands of greyhounds are killed once they are considered too slow to be profitable as racers. The dogs that remain alive are confined in small cages with barely enough room to turn around, for up to twenty hours each day. When racing, greyhounds are at great risk of enduring life-ending injuries. This is no way to treat a dog!

Greyhound racing is illegal in 40 states, and now West Virginia has a chance to eliminate it too by cutting funding. The West Virginia Senate and House recently approved SB 437, a measure that will repeal $15 million in annual subsidies and phase out greyhound racing in the Mountain State by July 1. Additionally, the bill creates a $1 million adoption trust for the greyhounds! This is a win for the state’s taxpayers and big win for the hounds.

Now it’s up to Governor Jim Justice to sign the bill. Please sign this petition demanding that he sign SB 437 into law today!
Update #17 years ago
On Saturday, Gov. Jim Justice vetoed Senate Bill 437. Neither the House or the Senate moved to override the veto. The fight isn't over though! You can still help end greyhound racing by signing similar petitions or starting your own!
