Justice For Paul Cortez

Justice For Paul Cortez

Target:

I unequivocally believe that all citizens of the United States have the right to a fair trial with competent counsel to prove their innocence. Paul Cortez was denied a fair trial because of inept counsel, media bias influence on the jury, inadequate investigation, and inexplicable lack of forensic testing. I am a law-abiding citizen who is signing this petition because I believe that Paul Cortez was denied his basic civil rights and was unfairly convicted. Accordingly, Paul Cortez's case should be reopened and reviewed by the State of New York through the grant of a new trial.

Charles A. Ince I don't know if this person is innocent or guilty, but I do know everyone should get a fair trial with proper representation.

Given the skills, resources and sophistication of available investigative processes, there can be no excuse for the wrongful conviction of innocent individuals. FREE PAUL NOW!

I beleive that Paul Cortez did not get a fair trial. The fact that they found no finger prints but his?Come on what does that tell you? It sounds like to me the detectives did a poor job,or somebody is hiding something where the evidence is concerned. There is a murderer out there somewhere who is going to kill again, because the Police Department never wants to be wrong. The courts here in South Carolina are the same way. There has to be someone out there who can change things, who is it? I don't know, but I am still trying.

With DNA available now a days etc... Paul deserves a better trial. His life is at stake. No man should be convicted if there is any doubt. This case has a LOT of holes aka doubt in it. He deserves a fair trial at minimum.

It seems that this country is taking to locking up the innocent and caring individuals and leaving the monsters to roam the streets and run our government. I`m ashamed to be an American sometimes

"A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have--Thomas Jefferson." I believe we in America have come to that point. The kind of injustice Paul is going through is happening all too often, all around the country.

I believe a person should be given a defense attorney that is going to fight for giving his client a fair trial. Thats not just a warm body sitting next to him. States use all the resources they have to convict a person, but limit the money needed for the defense to show a good defense, this is not right and should be changed some how! This countries justice system is an injustice system only to those that can't afford to pay for his or her own attorney. Gary Adams

In my eyes Paul deserves a fair trial and I can not believe how long its taking to determine that a new trial needs to happen. -Lawyers don't show up for the first 3 days of trial -Hair found in victims hand was not tested -defense did not call any experts????

this is a absolute horrible story, i actually read the 48 hours book, and watched the episode, and i remain the conclusion that paul cortez is innocent, there is no doubt in my mind he is a guilty man, and the case was not throughly examined, and deserves the attention it needs to get a innocent man out from behind bars where he doesnt belong .

I cannot judge whether Paul is guilty or not, I have read both website, Paul’s defense and Catherine/David’s defense and I do believe Paul has had a really unfair trial and those hairs NEEDS to be tested due to the excuse used to why they haven’t is very contradicting and unbelievable. To be honest I am shocked that the NYPD and any other government involved have gotten away with such an unprofessional manner. I can't believe that they murderer COULD still be out at large and some are happy with that because at the end of the day at least SOMEONE (possibly innocent) is paying the price for this poor girls life. GET REAL AND GET TESTING THAT DNA!!!! DISSGRACEFUL AND DISSAPOINTING!!

If this man's basic unalienable rights were ignored, then his conviction holds no water. The key to any good murder/ assault investigation is forensics. It always holds the key. This case is truly another embarrassment for the NYPD. If Mr. Cortez is, in fact innocent, then there is a murderer out there who, I am sure, would hold no qualm about killing again.

Since the seventies wrongfully convicted exonerated inmates in New York's prisons have spent over 200 years behind bars because of just such shoddy defense and aggressive prosecution practices as those in the case of Paul Cortez. To fail to use biological evidence when you have it in hand to conclusively establish guilt or innocence is unconscionable. Claiming conclusive proof with a fingerprint when the prosecution ignores the presence of conclusive DNA evidence is prosecutorial misconduct which should be adequate grounds for an appeal to the highest courts. overturn this!

I was convinced of Paul's innocence the moment that I heard the piece that played on 48 Hours. I was drawn to it, I cried about it and I contacted his mother just to let her know how it impacted me. His day is coming, when he will rejoin his family and be vindicated, I know and pray that it is coming soon.

It appears to me that this young man is being denied this basic civil rights and was unfairly convicted on very inadequate evidence. I believe the case should be reopened and he should be given more qualified counsel.

In light of such overwhelming evidence that points to a killer/s of someone/s other than Paul Cortez, how can such a miscarriage of justice take place. Give this man his freedom now. Someone took Catherine Wood's life. Someone other than Paul Cortez, let's not take Paul's life away from him more than it has already.

My sister who is a registered nurse was just recently falsely accused of stealing drugs and using drugs at work. Which she never did. It was a set-up just to get rid of her. So I beleive it is very easy to be accused of something you did not do and Paul Cortez deserves another trial.

I went to school with Paul and I know that there is no way that he would or could ever commit such a crime. It is not in his character. Due to his looks (long stringy hair) and his mistaken belief in the justice system he was exploited as a patzy by cops who bungled an investigation and wanted to cover their tracks. Newspaper and media outlet that perpetuate false stories and make up evidence should be prosecuted for libel. I cannot believe this has happened to such a beatiful person. I am incensed. No justice, no peace. If this can happen to him, it could happen to you, it could happen to me. No justice, no peace. I pray for the holding up of his spirits and strength and I pray for a new trial that vindicates this honorable man. Amen.

Mr.Cortez was convicted in the midst of a local media hysteria in many respects comparable to that of the infamous Duke case. His attorneys presented one of the most incompetent representations in recent memory, and the jurt admittedly convicted on the basis of a falacious boot identification. Commmon fairness demands that he be granted a second,a fair, trial.
