Justice For Paul Cortez

I was convinced of Paul's innocence the moment that I heard the piece that played on 48 Hours. I was drawn to it, I cried about it and I contacted his mother just to let her know how it impacted me. His day is coming, when he will rejoin his family and be vindicated, I know and pray that it is coming soon.

It appears to me that this young man is being denied this basic civil rights and was unfairly convicted on very inadequate evidence. I believe the case should be reopened and he should be given more qualified counsel.

My sister who is a registered nurse was just recently falsely accused of stealing drugs and using drugs at work. Which she never did. It was a set-up just to get rid of her. So I beleive it is very easy to be accused of something you did not do and Paul Cortez deserves another trial.

I went to school with Paul and I know that there is no way that he would or could ever commit such a crime. It is not in his character. Due to his looks (long stringy hair) and his mistaken belief in the justice system he was exploited as a patzy by cops who bungled an investigation and wanted to cover their tracks. Newspaper and media outlet that perpetuate false stories and make up evidence should be prosecuted for libel. I cannot believe this has happened to such a beatiful person. I am incensed. No justice, no peace. If this can happen to him, it could happen to you, it could happen to me. No justice, no peace. I pray for the holding up of his spirits and strength and I pray for a new trial that vindicates this honorable man. Amen.

Mr.Cortez was convicted in the midst of a local media hysteria in many respects comparable to that of the infamous Duke case.His attorneys presented one of the most incompetent representations in recent memory,and the jurt admittedly convicted on the basis of a falacious boot identification. Commmon fairness demands that he be granted a second,a fair,trial.

This is yet another case of stubborn injustice. A system that allows personal ambition,the unwillingness to admit a mistake and the need for a scapegoat to take presidence over common sense and evidence, or lack of evidence. As human beings given the gift of reason,let us be willing to admit that we have made a mistake. I know this young man is receiving more attention then most of the wrongly accused because he is literate, intelligent, and physically attractive. We can start with him and move on to those who have no advocates...He is not guilty. Give him a chance....

I am in full support of Paul Cortez having the chance for a new trial. I hope dearly he is able to have the opportunity to fairly defend himself. I believe in his innocence and I commend those fighting for him. Your site is incredible, the video was a wonderful addition and the 911 call speaks volumes! I, myself, have worked tirelessly to help fight for those wrongfully convicted people who sit dying in our prison systems. I offer the highest praise to this group of dedicated, hard working, freedom fighters. Paul is truly blessed to have you now allowing any of us forget him. People have NO idea how much daily hard work it is to fight for those imprisoned. It is an uphill exhausting process. I am humbled by your efforts and applaud your devotion. The fact there was never any DNA testing on the clump of hair found in the victims hand shows bad judgement on the police's part. If DNA was overlooked on every murder case how many innocent people would be convicted of murder? I just feel the police really let down not only the victim, but Paul Cortez. I feel if the DNA was properly taken and evaluated then they would have come to a different conclusion. How can you convict with no evidence? ESPECIALLY when both Paul and the other boyfriend had the SAME shoe size. Not to mention if i found a loved one in the state the victim was i would be no where near as calm cool and collected as the other boyfriend who placed the call to 911 was. This whole case is absolute ludacris and i dont know how the police and jury sleep at night knowing they convicted a man before testing DNA such as hair found in her hand. Cell phone records shouldnt be enough to convict. Also i remember when watching the case. Catherine had called Paul to say she thought a customer drugged/molested her, and asked Paul to pick her up. Has the idea that maybe the same person who drugged/molested Catherine also stalked her, followed her home, and murdered her ever been investigated? Surely you cant convict on a shoe size and cell phone records. I would assume it would have to be more solid evidence.

I would like to believe that we live in a country that fights for truth and not to just seek to solve a case without getting all the facts straight. Paul Cortez was denied a fair trial and competent representation. He has been unfairly convicted and there has to be someone that can see that the evidence should have been tested. Police should have checked whatever that would have led to. What has happened to a man is innocent until proven guilty? There was not much evidence to convict paul cortez yet he sits in jail. Paul's case should be reopned and he should be granted a new trial.

I learned about Paul's Case by watching an episode of 48 Hours someone posted on YouTube. I was absolutely outraged that he was found guilty! I believe in my heart that he is innocent and deserves another trial.

My intuition tells me Paul Cortez is an innocent man who unfortunetly fell prey to the injustices of not being able to afford reputable counsel. Reading on Paul's case I read this: Through high school, he was definitely a big flirt, but I more remember most girls falling all over him, and him focusing on only a couple of girls through the time. One was the girl I speak about over. Another was a pretty girl that most guys in our high school drooled over, but who didn't seem to give him much time of a day. A third was an Argentinian girl he met while he was on a 3-week exchange program in Argentina and who came to our high school when she was in NY for 3 weeks. ... That argentinian lady is me. I have his letters his poens, phone numbers, cassettes, I know Paul is innocent. I know he did not do this and I will pray and ask the lord to make justice. Paul, hang in there hon. hang in there. You are an amazing guy, a talented artist and a true life believer. You inspired the people around you and you taught me to keep fighting for what I believe. If you ever read this, I hope you remember me because I remember you and all the great moments we shared both in argentina and Brooklyn. God bless you!

When I read about the murder case about Catherine Woods, My gut told me that Paul absolutely did NOT do it. There is so much lack of proof in this case. I wish that they would re-trial. Paul if you're reading this, I know you didn't do it! I think it's so wrong and immoral that you are in prison for a crime you did NOT commit! Hang in there, and keep praying.

I've been haunted by the trial and conviction of Paul Cortez. What bothers me most is that it was possible that there was dna evidence (possibly hair or other) under the finger nails of Catherine Woods and it wasn't checked. I'd like to know whose DNA that is.
