I unequivocally believe that all citizens of the United States have the right to a fair trial with competent counsel to prove their innocence. Paul Cortez was denied a fair trial because of inept counsel, media bias influence on the jury, inadequate investigation, and inexplicable lack of forensic testing. I am a law-abiding citizen who is signing this petition because I believe that Paul Cortez was denied his basic civil rights and was unfairly convicted. Accordingly, Paul Cortez's case should be reopened and reviewed by the State of New York through the grant of a new trial.

As a superior court investigator, child and adult abuse investigator, I understand the importance of clearly representing ALL the facts in a case. Everyone should be able to have access to a competent criminal defense; regardless of their economical standing. Paul's defense was nothing short of incompetent. There appears to be enough reasonable doubt in his case that he should be allowed a retrial.

Tonight for the first time I've seen the Paul Cortez story and I don't think he did it. The other boyfriend who was about to be kicked to the curb was not investigated properly. With DNA evidence why did they not analyze the hairs that were found in her hand. I too believe that Paul is innocent. The police never investigated the angle of the strip club where she worked. When the police have tunnel vision you can hang it up. Paul's case should be reopened and we as citizen's of this United States should be outraged. Unfortunately we live in a society where the police can get away with shoddy investigations and present them as facts.

I just watched a repeat of 48 hours on the WE network about Paul Cortez. After following up online and watching the demeanor of Paul Cortez, I feel he deserves a new trial. I am incredulous that his attorneys contributed the video at the electronics store that showed his shoes!

I have read every piece of information available on this case and it is inconceivable to me that Paul was found guilty. There is so much reasonable doubt that exists. The hair in Catherine's hands, the boots that were never found, the absence of cuts or bruises on Paul's body from a struggle, how he could get out of the apartment without leaving a trail of blood, none of his hairs being present at the crime scene...The list goes on and on. It's also clear to me that he did not receive proper representation. It is my strong opinion that justice was not served in this case and he in no way received a fair trial. You have my support, 100%.

After watching the 48 hour mistery show trough youtube and reading the webiste and the case sumary im convinced Paul Cortez is ineed innocent of the crime he is convicted of. The police didn't conduct a propper investigation on the case and there are still a lot of questions that need answered. Till that time Paul is innocent and needs to be released and be reunited with his family.

in all honest truth, i dont belive paul commited catherine woods. i think it was david and they need to re-open the case. he's being ridiculed and slandered because he was dating a woman who was leasing a "double life". it snot his fault she couldnt make up her mind between the two men. who knows, it could be someone at the strip club. who knows. not all the evidence was tested either. i repeat, it needs to be re-examined.
