Get tough on Animal cruelty laws in Canada!

There are three types of offences against animals in Canada. Killing and harming animals (445), torturing animals (445.1) and neglecting animals (446)

Unfortunately most animal cruelty charges in Canada end up as summary conviction offences.

In Canada a summary conviction offence is less serious than an indictable conviction offence. The maximum penalty for a summary conviction is a mere 18 months of imprisonment, a fine of $10,000 or both. The accused MUST be charged within 6 months after the act happened. With an indictable ofence there is no time limit to when charges can be laid. For an indictable offence the accused are liable to imprisonment for a term of no more than 5 years.

In signing this petition you are asking the Canadian Government to make all animal cruelty charges indictable offences. You are also asking that these sentences be much harsher than a limit of 5 years depending on the offence. Let the Canadian Government know that the people of the world are sick and tired of these lax laws!!!!!! Please sign and share. Thank you.
