Save the Camp in Saugatuck!

THE PRESBYTERY OF CHICAGO must sell the camp property in Saugatuck to repay money it owes to a bank. While all of us recognize the importance of repaying the bank debt, we must also consider that, unlike money, once the camp is gone, it can never be replaced, and it will never again be able to benefit children and families as it has since 1898. We therefore urge all commissioners to the Presbytery of Chicago, at the February 8th meeting, to reject the revised offer from the developer, and accept the firm offer for the camp that has recently been by made by Oval Beach Preservation Society (“OBPS”). The OBPS offer is all cash with no contingencies for $8,000,000. To prove that this offer is real, OBPS is willing to make a non-refundable earnest money deposit of $1,000,000!

By selling the camp to OBPS, the Presbytery of Chicago would allow the camp, under new ownership, to continue to serve the purposes for which the camp has been intended by Presbytery of Chicago members who have generously supported the camp for almost one hundred years. It is our hope that the camp in Saugatuck can continue to be a camp forever, and our belief that ensuring that this happens is the best way for the Presbytery of Chicago to be a faithful steward of the many contributions of its members who have supported the camp and Presbytery for generations.
