Tell Condo Association to Help Save Endangered Falcons!

A couple built and installed a bird box on their Central Park West condo to invite endangered peregrine falcons to live and breed. A pair of birds moved in and raised two rare chicks, but the condo association removed the box with no warning after the babies flew away.

The adult falcons still called the box their home. When they returned to the spot and couldn't find the box, they started making distress calls. The state Department of Environmental Conservation says the condo association was within their rights to remove the box without notice, but experts say the action hurt the protected birds.

“The survival of these birds is reliant on the hospitality of strangers,” said Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a master falconer. Experts say that breeding pairs tend to return to their home perch, but without a box there, their eggs could fall off the ledge and break.

The condo association should welcome these birds as an attraction. Destroying their home is cruel and could prevent the breeding pair from raising more young. Please sign the petition to urge Central Park West condos to allow falcon boxes!

We, the undersigned, are concerned with your decision to remove a falcon box that your residents built to house a breeding pair of endangered peregrine falcons.

The falcons still called the box their home.

We believe that your condo association should welcome these birds as an attraction. Destroying their home is cruel and could prevent the breeding pair from raising more young. We respectfully urge you to allow falcon boxes on your condos in the future. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
