There are many pasture horses and farm animals who are left outside to endure the harsh winter weather with no choice of shelter. Many animals are left in fields with no proper cover where they can rest their body, keep dry and protect their young and care for them comfortably. Where they can relieve stress from being in harsh wind and freezing temperatures, keep warm and be able to sleep properly. All breeds need shelter and is vital that the British government make this compulsory for all owners to provide shelter for their animals and lead by example.
Shelter is one of the five freedoms in the British governments agriculture legislation and yet not enough is done to ensure that many gentle and sensitive farm animals are cared for with the highest of dignity and care. Many young animals and their mothers cannot withstand the strong winds and heavy rain and where they are left outside day and night. There are many ways shelter can be provided and where we allow the animal to choose whether they want to take shelter or not. I have seen many animals of all breeds desperately trying to take shelter in the colder months and is heartbreaking to see a mother trying to shelter her baby. These feeling animals really do need shelter for protection and comfort and to feel secure in their environment. It is vital many animals who are not given this freedom are included and heard and where we show future generations the importance of shelter and of all the five freedoms and in providing the highest of care.

The more I observe farm animals, the more passionate I feel to help them and raise awareness on shelter, a choice of shelter which is vital for them when the weather turns and they need dry ground and cover, particularly for the young. Thankyou to all who have signed, there is a long way to go but I believe raising awareness on shelter is a step closer to raising the issue and on the standards many farm animals and horses have to live. Compassion flows to compassion for animals and their owners, for we show others by leading by example. It is important shelter is brought to the fore and is seen as a vital freedom of choice that all animals need in freezing and in very hot weather.
