Bring back Coach Smith to Garden City Baseball 2017

As many of you already know, the varsity coaching staff is under extreme scrutiny by the administration which includes the superintendent, athletic director, principal, and vice principals.

 

Over the past several years, it has somehow become acceptable in youth sports, including high school baseball, to try out for a team, accept a roster spot and if you don't get the playing time or position you or your parent's feel you deserve, then just quit or "turn in your uniform".  These days, not only is the player not held accountable for doing the wrong thing but they are being asked who's fault could it be that made you make the decision to quit. There is almost no regard as to the impact this has on teammates or a coach who prides himself on the success of his players, on and off the field. 

 

In my opinion, this is what has been happening over the last several years to Coach Smith, Menges and Sweeney. The administration is now being pressured to listen to whoever is wiling to give their opinion and so far it has overwhelmingly been the people with negative things to say.  This has put the coaching staff and especially Coach Smith, in a situation that I can only describe as a nightmare.  Refusing to say anything negative about any of "their boys" in order to defend themselves, they are currently the fall guys and I believe, without merit! 

 

While I certainly believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I am not looking to persuade anyone.  For those who have been impacted by Coach Smith in a positive way, he needs your help ASAP!

 

I did what I could to get the most updated email addresses but I know many former players have been left off unintentionally.  For those who are on Facebook or those with email chains from Football, Lacrosse...., please let them know. I urge everyone who feels the way I do to set aside some time in the next day or two and send an email to the addresses listed below.  It would also help if you could ask relatives, former students or even anyone who played against Garden City growing up to write their own email in support. 

 

In closing, it is hard for me to comprehend that a coach who has done so much, for so many, for nearly a half of a century needs our help but believe me he does!  There is also a rumor that the coaches are just looking to finish out the season with pride.  They are doing what they love and I feel they are doing it well.  I believe they would like to continue for the foreseeable future.
