No Summer School For Failed Standardized STAAR Testing

This year SISD will have 9 open elementary schools to accommodate students from their 26 elementary schools for summer school. They will have 3 of their middle schools open to accommodate students from the 7 in the district. This is primarily due to students failing the STAAR test even if the children have passing grades in the individual subjects, deeming them eligible to pass on to the next grade level.

Attendance of this summer school session is MANDATORY if the STAAR test was failed, meaning you have no choice. If so many children are not passing these tests, I do not believe it is a reflection of the teacher's abilities to teach. It is a reflection of a failed education system requiring a student's entire education to be judged by one irrelevant test.

Not only does this requirement of summer school strain the children, parents, teachers and administrators, it is an utter waste of taxpayer money.
