Petition to Render "Journeys" Optional for Girl Scout Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards

"Journeys" is the new core curriculum rolled out by Girl Scouts of the United States of America in 2008. This curriculum focuses less on traditional scouting activities, and more on self-discovery and community activism. This curriculum has recently become required material for older scouts earning their Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards.

We the undersigned petition to render "Journeys" optional for Girl Scouts seeking to earn their Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards, and request that a "Girl Scout Classic" pathway be available to girls seeking to earn these awards.

We further acknowledge that Girl Scouts of the United States of America is a diverse organization, and that the "Journeys" program may well serve the needs of many girls. We petition to make this program optional only for girls who prefer a more traditional scouting experience through skill-building and community service. We further stress to Girl Scouts of USA our concern that emphasis on Journeys may result in diminished enrollment in the future.
