BBC: Stop reporting with proven bias against Jeremy Corbyn

It's easy to feel that our own favoured side of a debate isn't being given the airtime or positivity it deserves. But in the case of Jeremy Corbyn, it's been been statistically proven by more than one study that there is significant and wide-ranging media bias against him. An in-depth London School of Economics study has now found that "most newspapers [have been] systematically vilifying [him], assassinating his character, ridiculing his personality and delegitimising his ideas and politics."

In an era where the media is owned and controlled by the wealthy elite, it's no surprise that coverage of a man who fights for social and economic equality would be seen as a threat. But the BBC is now at the centre of this smear campaign. It's time it faced its responsibility to the public who pay for it, and gave us a measured representation of all our government figures so we can make our own decisions.

The researchers' analysis of BBC News at Six found:

  • critics of Corbyn were given twice as much airtime as his supporters
  • issues raised by his critics were given much greater prominence than issues he raised
  • pejorative language was used by BBC reporters to describe Jeremy Corbyn, his team and his supporters

BBC News at Six is relied upon by many as a source of impartial and high quality reporting. It is highly undemocratic and manipulative to offer deeply politically biassed reports whilst claiming to be neutral. Please sign this petition to demand that the BBC respond to the findings, and commit to fair coverage of all politicians including both of the current Labour leader candidates.

The BBC:

I am writing today to urge you to respond to the recent LSE study that found your reporting of Jeremy Corbyn is significantly biassed against him, and to also urge you to commit to unbiassed reporting.

Your service is publicly funded, and people trust in it for unbiassed information to allow them to make informed choices.

It is a severe blow for democracy if we cannot trust the BBC.
