Remove the STAAR testing from Texas Schools

Growing up we did not have as complicated of tests as STAAR. We had TAAS, TAKS, and regular testing that may have been a requirement to take, but did not have as hard of a complicated criteria. We were taught in schools all different subjects and then focused on the testing for a week or two before the test.

Now, our children are being forced to spend the entire school year learning how to take a test. They are then forced into a test they are set up to fail and the school districts do not see the issue. Children are being diagnosed with depression and anxiety as young as 5th Grade and it has to stop. Why bother sending our children to school when it's becoming more harmful to go to school than to quit?

Children are not taught cursive any longer. They are not taught proper reading skills, and they're forced to use electronics to do basic math now. When did it become more important to take a test than to learn basic necessities in life? Without cursive, you do not have a "signature". Without basic math you can't give change nor count out your own money. Let's get back to what is really important in schools!

Sign this petition so we can tell the State of Texas we don't want our children to take tests that are so difficult they believe they'll fail no matter what. We want our children to learn in school, not have panic attacks at the age of 7 because they are told if they don't pass a test they won't move up to the next grade! We want our children to learn about different subjects in school, not how to take a test!
