EPA: Regulate Newly Discovered Greenhouse Gas!

  • by: Chris Wolverton

Toronto researchers recently discovered a new greenhouse gas called "perfluorotributylamine" (PFTBA). 7,100 times more powerful at warming the Earth than carbon dioxide, this gas breaks all previous records for potential climate impact.

PFTBA has been used in the electrical industry since the mid 1900s, does not occur naturally, and exists only in small amounts. If it existed in large amounts, its effects on global warming could be tremendous. Because the gas can exist in the Earth's atmosphere for up to 500 years, its levels could become problematic with no regulation.

Currently there are no policies in place to regulate the production, use or emission of PFTBA. Please sign the petition to urge the EPA to regulate this new gas before it's too late!

We, the undersigned, are concerned about a newly-discpvered greenhouse gas called "perfluorotributylamine" (PFTBA). 7,100 times more powerful at warming the Earth than carbon dioxide, this gas breaks all previous records for potential climate impact.

Because the gas can exist in the Earth's atmosphere for up to 500 years, its levels could become problematic with no regulation.

Currently there are no policies in place to regulate the production, use or emission of PFTBA. We respectfully urge you to develop a plan for regulating this gas before it's too late. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
