Don't Force Statutory Rape Victim to Pay Child Support!
Statutory rape victim Nick Olivas is being forced to pay child support for a daughter he unknowingly fathered when he was 14 years old. The mother, who was 20 when their daughter was born, never told Olivas she was pregnant, but two years ago the state of Arizona served him with a $15,000 child support bill. The state seized money from his bank account and is now taking $380 from his monthly wages. Olivas is still only 24 years old.
At 14, Olivas didn't know he could have pressed charges against the woman, but this doesn't mean he should be held responsible for something that happened when he was barely a teenager. Olivas wants to be part of his daughter's life and to pay child support in the future, but that shouldn't be required. Olivas has every right to enjoy his adult life, and should not be held responsible for anything that happened when he was under age.
