Help ensure the welfare of dolphins in Australia!

Bucky the dolphin is 45 years old and recovering from cancer. Although currently in remission, he is still made to perform in demeaning entertainment shows twice a day, 365 days a year.

You might not believe it, but this abuse is happening in our very own backyard, at a tourist park called Dolphin Marine Magic in the NSW coastal town of Coffs Harbour.

Dolphin Marine Magic claims to promote conservation, but we have strong evidence to suggest it is in violation of its exhibit licence.

Despite advertising the park as a rehabilitation and rescue facility, Dolphin Marine Magic has admitted it does not have the room to take in sick dolphins – as is legally required under the NSW Dolphin Standards. Not only that, but the size of the dolphin pool falls well short of legal specifications.

Although Dolphin Marine Magic has no room to care for injured dolphins, it still allows dolphins to breed - ensuring whole new generations are born into captivity. While two of the dolphins at the park were originally rescued from the wild, the other four have been bred into a lifetime of exploitation. They are forced to perform in demeaning shows, swim with and kiss strangers, and even give members of the public “rides”.

Thanks to our investigations, The Australian has published a story exposing the marine park as being “driven by profit, not conservation”. The CEO of Dolphin Marine Magic, Paige Sinclair, responded by saying "Every park that's in Australia that has any sort of animal would use it for conservation research, but also to entertain."

Even though we have reason to believe Dolphin Marine Magic has violated its existing licence conditions, the park has been issued with a new licence to continue its operations for another year.

Make a stand and ask the NSW Department of Primary Industries to take responsibility for the welfare of captive dolphins and ensure Dolphin Marine Magic meets the dolphin exhibition standards - or take away its licence!
