Annual Testing for Health Care Professionals

  1. I think it would be very beneficial for all health care professionals to be tested annually for HIV and AIDs. When patients come into the hospital they are counting on their nurses and doctors to take care of them and they are trusting that they are in a safe environment. Transmission of an infection from a health care professional to a patient should never happen and I think annual testing is a great step in decreasing the chances of this occurance.
  2. As of 2010, 57 documented transmissions from a health care professional to a patient and 143 possible transmissions had been reported in the United States. Although this is not a lot, it is still more than it should be. Just one HIV/AIDS transmission from a health care professional to a patient is too much in my opinion.
