Free Rahmaan Herman

On January 10 2007, Rahman Manzaar El-Herman was arrested and charged with CONSPIRACY TO DISTRIBUTE AS WELL AS MANUFACTURE CRACK COCAINE. The alleged acts occurred during a 1 year period beginning when Mr. El-Herman was 21.
After a brief trial in w...hich he was pointed out as a co-conspirator by a few witnesses, Mr. El-Herman was convicted. It should be noted that due to Federal Conspiracy Statutes, no physical evidence was needed to convict him. The fact that those witnesses were all granted immunity, and or released from custody in exchange for their testimony, is a very common practice, and is all that was needed to convict Mr. El-Herman.
During the sentencing phase, the judge in Mr. El-Herman’s case was bound by "draconian" federal guidelines, which called fora stiff punishment of 10 years to LIFE. Again it should be noted that these stiff federal sentencing guidelines were implemented to help protect the public from big time narcotics traffickers, particularly those involved in the mob or cartels. MR. EL-HERMAN WAS NONE OF THOSE TYPES MENTIONED.
Sadly however, the judge in this case handed down a harsh sentence of 15 years----on MR. EL-HERMANS FIRST AND ONLY EVER FELONY!!!!
In the 8 years since his incarceration, Mr. El-Herman has made a great deal of changes in his life.
He's received his G.E.D. as well as 15 other certificates ranging from forklift operator, real estate, and OSHA certification.
He admits that he was wrong for selling drugs, and takes full responsibility for his actions.
In those same 8 years, the United States Sentencing Commission has also made a great deal of changes of their own; in 2010 they passed the "Fair sentencing act", and this year they’ve passed "All drugs minus 2", both of which lower mandatory minimums for non-violent drug offenders substantially. Put simply, had Mr. El-Herman been sentenced for those same crimes today, he most certainly would’ve received a significantly shorter sentence.
Mr. El-Herman is now 32 years old, and the proud father of 6 children. Unfortunately due to his incarceration, his activity in his children’s lives is very limited. We are pleading, and imploring the sentencing judge in this case, to reconsider the sentence he handed down and use the power given to him by the new "All drugs minus 2" as well as "FSA 2010"to a more lenient sentence; Particularly one that reflects the fact that Mr. El-Herman is a FIRST TIME FELON, CONVICTED OF A NON-VIOLENT, VICTIMLESS CRIME.
