AntiSeniority for teachers' jobs

Seniority applies to teachers often with their jobs. Every year there are new teachers in schools but laid off because of seniority. They are fantastic teachers but with the schools' and districts budget they cut the new teachers.

As students we observed that new teachers have the excitement that older teachers lack. We feel like we learn faster and better with the new teachers guidance. This is because the relationship we share is through struggling and succeeding together with the new year.

Seniority shouldn't apply to jobs. It should be about the work ethic put forward by the teachers. As students we feel that it is unfair to new teachers to be laid off because of budget cuts. New teachers definitely have the energy we look forward to seeing in class. We also believe that new teachers just like students learn and better themselves by struggling or failing. When having this bond created through trial and error together we will be better connected, understood, and respected.

We understand that job security for all of the teachers is an issue. We also know that over time teachers can change from being the new energetic teacher to the old and not so interesting teachers in a matter of years. We are not saying that older teachers should have their positions taken away from them because they do have different qualities and skills that new teachers might not have. Our point is simple, we want our teachers to have a fair chance to prove themselves to the district, school, and students.
