Support Massachusetts Initiative to Ban Cruel Confinement of Animals!

Animal activists recently demonstrated at the Massachusetts State House to support a ban on cruel confinement of livestock animals. Currently, breeding sows, veal calves and egg-laying hens spend much or all of their lives in small cages or crates where they can't spread out or turn around.

As, Matt Bershadker, president and CEO of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, says, "This is torture. Yet, it is what animals on so many industrialized farms are forced to endure every day of their lives."

A ballot initiative submitted to the attorney general's office would make it illegal for any business owner to "knowingly cause any covered animal to be confined in a cruel manner," except during medical research, examinations, fair exhibits, transportation or slaughter. It would also ban Massachusetts from selling eggs and meats produced through animal confinement.

Animals should have the right to stretch their limbs and move around. It is time to end animal confinement torture. Please sign the petition to urge Massachusetts Legislators to support the ballot initiative to ban animal confinement!

We, the undersigned, are writing to support the ballot initiative that would ban livestock confinement in Massachusetts. Currently, breeding sows, veal calves and egg-laying hens spend much or all of their lives in small cages or crates where they can't spread out or turn around.

We believe that animals should have the right to stretch their limbs and move around. It is time to end animal confinement torture. We respectfully urge you to support the ballot initiative to ban animal confinement. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
