Demand justice for 500 pigs that died from heat stress at an Australian piggery

About 500 pigs have died from heat stress at a NSW piggery, according to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald.

The pigs are alleged to have died in February and the relevant authorities were kept in the dark for weeks about the incident.

An anonymous whistle blower told media that the tragedy occurred when an air-cooling system failed. A security company was alerted when the system failed but was unable to reach on-call employees to notify them.

The piggery in question is already alleged to have a bad track record with animal welfare - animal activists released footage from inside the piggery last year showing piglets in pieces and hundreds of pregnant sows confined to stalls.

No animal should be treated this way. Will you help me demand justice for the 500 pigs?

Please sign and share the petition to urge NSW Minister for Primary Industries, Katrina Hodgkinson, to conduct a full investigation as to whether there has been any violations of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979 (NSW) and that any offenders are prosecuted to the full extent of the law, pending the results of the investigation.
