I Do Too !!!

My name is Diane Jividen and I am a mother and a grandmother that has been effected by the horrible reality of addiction. In the past few years the lives of 3 people that I love more than anything on earth have nearly been taken away from me. Right now they are all alive. Right now my grandsons are going from day to day in danger of falling yet again into to the powerful, dangerous grip of a heroin overdose. Every single day I pray that this will not be their last day on this earth. Every night I pray that I will not receive the call that tells me that my worst nightmare is a reality.
I know the statistics, and I know that they are living on borrowed time. I know how real the possibility is that I might not see one of them tomorrow morning. And what hurts me the most is knowing that I, their grandmother have no power to do anything to save their life.
You see my children are all adults. Being an adult didn’t stop them from being a child, my flesh and blood. Being an adult didn’t take away their DNA or change the relationship we have. But being an adult has taken away my ability to do something to help them. The very fact that they are over the age of 18, my ability to request treatment for them has been stripped away.
Our nation must have a “Need for Treatment Standard” judged constitutional by the Federal Government. Individuals suffering from drug addiction need to be committed to “the MOST beneficial treatment”, not the least, where they can come and go as they please before they have received the help that they desperately need.
Legislation must be passed for parents and grandparents of ADULT children or grandchildren who are drug addicts to be able to get them committed for help.
Please support the “I DO TOO” Campaign.
If you would respond “I Do Too” to any of these statements, this campaign is for you.
    I love my child/grandchild.
I want my child/grandchild to be happy.
I want my child/grandchild to grow up and for their dreams to come true.
I fear that addiction will rip my family apart.
I fear that addiction will steal the life from someone that I love.

If you responded “I do too” to any of those questions please help me.
Help me take this message to Washington DC. Help me to take the first step at making a difference in a policy that is placing young people in harm’s way by tying the hands of parents and grandparents who are trying to get treatment for the addiction that stealing them and is ultimately going to kill them if something is not done.
