Give Bette Davis her Oscar for Whatever Happened to Baby Jane

  • by: Jo B

(PLEASE SHARE) It is public knowledge now that a smear campaign robbed Miss Davis of her Oscar for Best Actress for "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane". A posthumous award would be appropriate for her work and is long over due. She should also be recognized for her work in "All About Eve". It is also public knowledge that her success was wrecked by the co-submission of Anne Baxter also as a Lead Actress for "Eve" and the vote was subsequently split. At the time Miss Davis already established a record for Most Oscar Nominations by an Actress and or Actor. This acknowledgement also is long over due.

Dear Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences;

    I have started this petition after being familiar with the life and work of Miss Bette Davis for a number of years. Due to todays availablity of information on Miss Davis, her writings, writings about her, her body of work along with the recent release of FOX's "Feud - Bette & Joan", I have been moved to a call of action regarding her acknowledgement by the Academy or lack thereof.

Bette Davis' outstanding professionalism, character and work as an artist has stood the test of time. Many decades later it is public knowledge that a smear campaign robbed Miss Davis of her Oscar for Best Actress for "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane". A posthumous award would be appropriate for her work and is long over due.

She should also be recognized for her work in "All About Eve". It is also public knowledge that her strong support for a win was undermined by the co-submission of Anne Baxter in the Lead Actress category for this film and the vote was subsequently split. Miss Davis performance withstood that storm and time and is still regarded worldwide as the leading actress driving ng performance for "Eve" and it's year of release. Around the time of "Eve" Ms Davis already established a record for Most Oscar Nominations by an Actress. This acknowledgement also is long over due.

Please take time to seriously consider this issue and recognize the support of all the signatures included in this petition worldwide. This is not a matter of contention or taste, but a matter of acknowledgement for the work of this strong and dedicated artist. A professional who was light years ahead of her time. Fearless and dedicated, even if it mean't doing it the hard way.

Not only "aging" but "saving face" is definitely not for the weak.

Thank You.
